gratitude-a-thon day 72: a glimpse of spring

It’s sort of a amazing to me what some nice weather will do. Instantly, I have a little spring in my step. I’m practically throwing out the the sleeping bag coat and burning the furry boots. I want all signs of winter immediately out of sight, as if that might encourage the thermometer to stay above 55 permanently. No looking back, mother nature,  go forward into the light, babe. Put your snow away and bring on the sun. We’re all better for it. What’s more, it’s April, so don’t EVEN think about bringing on another bout of snow, or freezing temps. You will be sorry if you do.

I am so deeply affected by the weather that it’s a wonder I have lasted this long as a resident of  four season location for this long. People were out in t-shirts yesterday and you could practically feel their improved mood. Ok, maybe it was all the Easter candy that had brought on a sugar high of kindness, but I don’t think so. Milder weather just makes everybody and everything more tolerant.

I have always lived in New England (I grew up in Connecticut), and I love this here East coast, all except for the weather. By March, you can feel the discontent spilling out onto the street. You can taste it in the air. People are just plain pissed. There is annoyance, and anger and a kind of exhaustion that only too much snow shoveling and sweater-wearing and fervent weather channel watching can produce.

So, today, I am grateful for yesterday, a warm and sunny day. It made me feel hopeful and happy. I opened the windows and aired out the drab smell of winter. I hope it will be another beautiful day today, but it’s New England, people, you have to take it a day at a time. And be grateful for what you get. I am.
